Exterior Back Wall & Service Pipes!

This week was supposed to be the week my bathroom was complete and I was working on the back exterior wall to tidy up the patchy mess I’d created using silicone like cake icing to patch up old screw holes.

While our builders were working on the bathroom we’ve been prepping the back wall to neaten up the service pipes, all the silicone areas and repaint. After having the electrician cut the power and remove the messy conduit I tidied up the wall by grinding back all the remaining screws and patching those holes with silicone, sanding the messy bits with my grinding flap disc and then undercoating with a waterproof membrane, and we’d just started painting the top coat.

Everything was going to plan when on Wednesday we received the news that South Australia was being put into strict lockdown due to a COVID 19 outbreak. Our builders had to finish work that day and go home, unable to return the next day to finish the bathroom, the electrician that was due back at the end of the week to reconnect the cables also was unable to come in to do so, needless to say our build was at a bit of a stand still!

Painting the back wall is something I could have continued with but I’m using a textured paint which requires a big roller which is really hard to get under the conduit that I had left attached to the wall, instead of persisting with the painting we actually removed all of the conduit and sanded back the areas for new conduit to go through. I’ve chatted to the plumber about how we’re going to tidy up the plumbing pipes and fix on new taps and the electrician will be back once I finally get the wall painted!

I’m honestly exhausted at this point so not doing anymore this week wasn’t a hard pill to swallow! The manual labour is difficult, no more difficult than I expected it to be but it’s kinda beat me this week. I’ve had the weekend off and was thankful just to be resting up!

Here’s some piccys of what we did manage to get done this week… the first photo is of what the wall looked like before we even started messing it up, also pics of the patchy wall and the undercoat waterproofing complete. Can you spot the little goat photobombing on the left hand side? The grey and black patches are silicone and the pink paint is just a marker paint to help us not miss any areas that needed worked on prior to waterproofing!

Good news is restrictions in SA have been lifted so our builders can come back and the bathroom tiling and toilet is set to be complete this Wednesday….yayyyy I can’t wait! I’m hoping we get the rest of the bathroom installed later in the week or early next week. And there’s no reason the back walk won’t be painted ready for the plumber and electrician to fix up their pipes and cables!

I’ve added in photos again this week of the products & tools I used and have talked about on this post!

Heaps to come so keep watching!
